WSOP 2008 Approaching Fast

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I can already feel the excitement building for the 2008 World Series of Poker.  It starts in just 14 days from now, with the first event taking place on 30th May.   Thousands of poker players are, as we speak,  furtively gathering their warchests, and making their travel/accom arrangements.

There are some interesting new events this year, most notable an 8 game mixed event.   A bit like HORSE on acid!

There is also the $50K HORSE, back for the 3rd year following previous wins by Chip Reese and Freddy Deeb.  Will the big name pros keep there strangle-hold on the trophy this time around?

The main event kicks-off on the 3rd July, and it will be interesting to see whether last year’s “blip” (on entrants) defying the usual trend of ever-increasing numbers for the main event, will be shown to be just that - a “blip”, or whether it is the start of a slowdown in field sizes.   My guess would be that we will see a small rise from last year.  I’ll guess we’ll find out soon enough

goleafsgo41 wins Super Tuesday

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

373 players paid the $1050 buy-in to play this weeks Super Tuesday on PokerStars.   As the bubble approached after around 3.5 hours, it was none other than WSOP and WCOOP bracelet winner mig.com fighting it out in first and second with the legend that is zangbezan24

With them also being at the same table for a considerable time, they were inevitably to tussle in a few encounters.  Here is one such time:

Full Tilt 25K Heads-up

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Full Tilt are hosting the largest buy-in tournament ever in the history of online poker.   On the 24th May at 3pm ET, they are hosting the World Heads-Up Championship, an event with a $25,000 buy-in!

Entrants will be capped at 64.  Whether they meet that amount though is another matter.  Full Tilt is the home of the worlds highest rolling poker players, so if anyone can get 64 players to stump up $25K they can.

There are 2 qualifiers for the event.  Both $535 buy-ins. They are on Thurs May 22nd at 3 pm ET, and Fri May 23rd at 9 pm ET
