ComeOnPhish - Rebuy Legend

Monday, March 17th, 2008

My feeling for the last few years is that ComeOnPhish is the best rebuy player on the planet.   Sure, there is always some new kid on the block who looks like he is “better”, but often those guys soon fade to the MTT variance.  ComeOnPhish however has consistantly carved it up in the rebuys at all levels for a very long time.    Just when it looks like a cold streak is coming, he’ll be back hammering out the final tables.   He is most definately a rebuy legend.

Here is another good result (from last night):

Jonathan Little Dumped by Full Tilt

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

Jonathan Little has been axed as a Full Tilt Pro after allowing someone else to play on his account.   Whereas it may seem a little harsh to some, I believe it is important that the red pros are actually the named players themselves, especially considering the number of railers that they draw, and questions that they encounter.

Here is the full statement from Full Tilt Poker

”Despite having a great year on the WPT, Jonathan Little is no longer affiliated with Full Tilt Poker. He violated the terms and conditions of Full Tilt Poker by allowing other players to play his account. While we encourage our pros to play as much as they can, we do not allow them to share their account with any other players.

When a player on Full Tilt Poker plays against and chats with a red pro on the site, it is imperative that they be able to trust that it is really the advertised pro playing the account. Given that Mr. Little violated that trust, we have decided to sever his ties to the site, and close his account.

Full Tilt Poker values the trust of its players and will deal with any violation of that trust swiftly. We apologize to any of our players who may have been misled during the past few months by Mr. Little’s actions.”

Super Tuesday win for arbianight

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

This weeks Super Tuesday ($1050 buy-in) on PokerStars attracted it’s usual field of quality entrants.   322 stumped up the largest regular buy-in on the net.

lilholdem954 took at very early lead, which held for around 2 hours.   Not really through any particular aggression as such.   He flopped a straight holding 87os and was bet into.  scarface_79 getting a little low also launched into him when he was holding pocket 10s.

Sat quietly at the very same table was none other than arbianight, the man with the ID that would have any assiduous proof-reader breakng out into a cold sweat.

By the time that lilholdem954 had busted out 4 from the money, arbianight was starting on a climb.    By 18 players left, he had a dominant chip lead, sat on around 185,000 chips

With a couple of minor deviations on route, this chip lead was brought home, first place netting arbianight $70,840.    PearlJammer had a good showing also, taking 6th place (good for $15,134)

Congratulation to arbianight on the win

Branding in Poker

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Creating a brand is important in any industry, and online poker is no exception.    The name, look and feel of a site are important, as is having deep pockets to market that poker brand to the masses.

This leads me on to PokerStars, and no fewer than 6 new installation updates recently to get their logo right.   An initial logo change that was made went down like a lead balloon amongst many players.   Eventually after some too-ing and fro-ing we have arrived at a red spade symbol with a white star in the centre.  Much better than the previous attempt at moderisation.

Personally I like the final version, which should be good for at least a few years….we shall see!
